Hola España is a Group for members who are learning to speak Spanish at various levels. We often have a prepared subject to write about or read aloud, and the conversation is free flowing, whether about the subject or just on the issues of the day. We also listen to a short news item of the week, spoken slowly by a native speaker, to improve our listening and understanding skills, although one of our members is fluent and can put us right if we ask - which I do - often 🙂
Absolute beginners are welcome to come along and just listen, or find what the language is all about. Several members have started learning at home using Duo Lingo, a free app, (There are probably others), on their computers first. After a little while, and with a bit of dedication, they have been able to join us without feeling intimidated. We are all learning, so speak slowly and are very tolerant of everyone else doing so. The useful part about getting together is speaking practice that can't be done from a book, and hearing others chatting. Human contact with another happy bunch of people, all joining in and stretching and exercising their brains to keep healthy, is a lovely bonus. - Terry
