Cheddar Valley

Groups

See the bottom of the page for individual group information.

Within Cheddar Valley U3A there are approximately 50 special-interest groups. These groups give members the opportunity to participate in their favourite activities and hobbies, or new activities and hobbies, alongside other members with the same interests. Some of these groups meet in the homes of their members. These groups are limited in size due to the available space, and so they are not always able to accommodate new members. Larger groups meet in hired rooms, such as church premises or scout premises, and may charge their members a fee to cover the costs of rooms and refreshments. The leader will have current information about the venue, how to get there, and the fee where there is one. Please contact the leader in order to check if there is space for an extra member and to let them know, out of courtesy, that you would like to join in. Members can find the name and email address or phone number of the leader of an existing group on the News Bulletin.

There are still vacancies in several of our Groups so have a look at what is on offer. Have a go at something new and different – you never know it may turn out to be your favourite!

New Group

The Genealogy / Family History / Ancestry Group held its first meeting on Friday 2nd May. It will now meet at 10:00am on the first Friday of every month thereafter, upstairs in Cheddar Library. Everyone is welcome, regardless of whether you are an expert or a curious beginner. Contact Mike Belch if you have any questions.

Beginners T'ai Chi

Message from Sandi Male, the Group Leader of Beginners Tai Chi.

The Beginners Tai Chi group started in September of last year following a lot of work to find a teacher and a waiting list from the Original (now Social) Tai Chi group. Bob Chadderton who heard about the initiative and offered his services for a few months was unwell and unfortunately died at the beginning of February. He had run a Tai Chi group for many years in Axbridge. One of his students who stepped in after Christmas to keep us going continues to do so. Another has done the same since March. We continue to practise together.

Tai Chi is one of those things that people see and want to try: It looks so graceful! That only comes from practise. It is exercise for the rest of your life. It improves balance.

So why have I put this in now?
We are looking for a permanent teacher. We would settle for an additional occasional one.
We are open to new members, if you have done any Tai Chi before, and if not we are opening a waiting list.  We don’t bite.

Get in touch if you can help or want to join - send your enquiries from our Contact page.
